Happy birthday, Audrey!

posted 03/05/2018

It's been 25 years since this world lost Audrey Hepburn..  But her legacy has endured long after her death.

Audrey portrait

Beyond a film and fashion icon, Audrey Hepburn was a humanitarian who spent the latter part of her life working with UNICEF, helping underpriveleged children and mothers across the globe.

Today, in honour of this amazing woman, on what would have been her 89th birthday, the team at Nesaa would like to share our ten favourite quotes from this amazingly articulate and intelligent soul.

“Not to live for the day, that would be materialistic — but to treasure the day. I realize that most of us live on the skin — on the surface — without appreciating just how wonderful it is simply to be alive at all.”

“I believe, every day, you should have at least one exquisite moment.”

Oooh, snakeskin!  Exquisite enough for you?!  I think having this bag in your life counts as a pretty exquisite moment!  Make it happen...

“People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.”

“Giving is living. If you stop wanting to give, there’s nothing more to live for.”

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!”

“My greatest ambition is to have a career without becoming a career woman.”

“There are more important things than outward appearance. No amount of makeup can cover an ugly personality.”

So, true.  But a bag with this much personality and beauty -- what can it do for you?!

“Good things aren’t supposed to just fall into your lap. God is very generous, but He expects you to do your part first.”

“The ‘Third World’ is a term I don’t like very much, because we’re all one world. I want people to know that the largest part of humanity is suffering.”

“They say love is the best investment; the more you give, the more you get in return.”

Loving you all!

Soph.. xo

p.s. That gorgeous shot of Audrey above is actually an oil painting on canvas..  Isn't it just beautiful?  And there's just the one available...

Actions are but by intention..

What does that mean to you?  Intentions..  Purpose.

Who was it, Dolly Parton, who said to find out what you love to do, and do it on purpose?

Aida, Earth Day

It's Earth Day today.  April 22nd.  Doesn't this bag conjour up images of the earth to you?  The hues of blue and green just call our sea, sky and land to me.  Very beautiful..

Now about Earth Day..  I wonder - I think in many parts of the world, Earth Day is probably quite highly marketed - I'm thinking the UK, the US, Canada..  Probably Australia.

Here in Jordan.. maybe not so much.  Because they don't care?  No, not at all.  Many of the concepts, the ideals behind a day marked for caring for the Earth - they are already played out because they must be, out of necessity.  Take water, for example.  In Canada, where I was born, it's probably such a foreign concept that the water could ever run dry..  That you would ever turn the tap on and water wouldn't come out!  You can even drink straight from the tap..  Well, actually, many don't anymore, because of the fluoride, chlorine, pharmaceuticals in there, but that's another story...  Good for another Earth Day post, though, perhaps.

Jordan is like one of thirstiest countries on the planet.  So, people don't waste water.  They know they can't.  We try really hard to be mindful of how much water is used.  I've learned that living here.  The blessing of having water every week is really just that..  a blessing!

So, today, the team here at Nesaa, wishes you a happy Earth Day..  But more than that, we welcome you to question your actions, to ask yourself why you're doing something.  Was it done on purpose?  For a purpose..?

Actions are but by intention.. So, before you act, make your intention.

And love it.  And then, do it on purpose!

Back in the swing of things

Hey everyone!

After a much-needed hiatus, our team of two is back and upped by one... and a half!

Baby Nesaa made her sparkly entrance summer of 2017.  And bringing some more life to this party, came along a super cool, creative engineer type to take on all of our Sales & Marketing concerns.  Please welcome Saimina, a transplant from Canada to Amman, full of fresh vibes and new ideas for the brand.

Our creative lead, Meher, the beauty and brains of this operation, spent the year designing the newest bags (Stay tuned!!!!!), taking inspiration from her many travels and her new obsession with vintage jewellery from the Mughal era.

And little ole me, busy with the new babe, am back for another six-month stint in Amman, armed and ready to help launch an even more beautiful 2018!

Much love,

Soph..  xo

Without winter, there'd be no SPRING!

Pasha mini travels to Moscow!

As winter has left us, we welcome the season of spring.  Here, at Nessa, we had an interesting winter, and were blessed to start an acquaintance with someone who is doing some exciting things in the world of fashion...

From winter to spring.. Olga shines with Nesaa's pasha mini in burgundy leather and gorgeous Ikat

Olga Gruzina is the face, and brains, behind the fashion blog 'Wardrobe on Cruise'.  She's a Russian model, living in Milan, Italy, and we were lucky enough to connect with Olga and to start a collaboration with her.  Her platform is smart, and really resonated with us here at Nesaa.

The name of the blog itself is a metaphor for the rotation of fashion and the influence it has on our lives.  Olga's style is impeccable and could be considered minimalistic.  She's also got a bit of a crush on good coffee and cute handbags..  so naturally, she was a perfect fit for Nesaa!

Be sure to check Olga out..  wardrobeoncruise.com and also on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/gruzinaolga/.

She even tells a great story..

Nesaa's Pasha petite begins her whirlwind tour..

One of my personal favs, the Pasha petite, made it into the hands of our lovely Olga.. and little Pasha, in purple tones and gold embellishment, traveled with Olga all the way from Milan to Brussels, Belgium and on to Moscow, Russia and back!  Lucky Pasha..

Check it out: http://wardrobeoncruise.com/2017/01/07/nesaa-bag-travels/

Postcards from the Pasha petite tour..

We know you'll love her as much as we do..!

In the arms of an angel.. Pasha petite sees the world with Olga Gruzina!

Happy spring!

Just like that, everything is new again!

I wonder..  Is it already too late to be talking about New Year's?  January 26th.  Thursday.  2017.

2017.  Is it me...  Or does that sound pretty awesome?  And even a bit frightening..  Okay, not exactly frightening.  But maybe just a bit alarming.  It's 2017!  I feel like it's going to be a very special year.  Mubarak -- that's an Arabic word for blessed.  2017 is going to be a blessed year.

Maybe because 17 was my jersey number when I played soccer growing up..  Just kidding!   [Well, it was, but that's not why 2017 is going to be awesome!]

It might be because I feel a lot of newness around me...  I'm turning 40, which certainly wouldn't be classified as new, but there are sayings in the Arab world that when you've reached your forties, that's basically when someone has made it.  Turning 40 should be a celebration, not anything anywhere near a pity-party..  In fact, you've now reached your prime.  Your opinions really matter now.  This is the time in your life when your past experiences mean something to everyone else..  Seriously, how cool is that?!

I'm also having a baby!  Aaaaaaaaaaaah....  My first one.  At 40.  I know.  And I've moved continents..  After a wonderful few years in Amman, Jordan, where Nesaa is based, I now find myself in a brand new place.  A new city.  New surroundings.  New friends and even some old ones..  (which is always nice!)

It's such an exciting time..!!  But doesn't everyone feel that way about January?!?  It's a time to take stock, to reflect and evaluate on the year past and decide on changes to implement - what to throw out, what to focus on, how to improve ourselves and the lives of those we love around us..  People make big lists, they write out their resolutions ready to get going as soon as that ball drops.  I, for one, am going to stop buying so many bags..  haha!  Just kidding..  But seriously, it's a time to look at how to eliminate or reduce one's bad habits and how to acquire good ones.

Here at Nesaa, it's a new and exciting time for us, as well.  We've had a fabulously interesting past few years debuting in this world of gorgeously slow fashion & ethical design.  We love and appreciate the people we work with, and are proud of the relationships we have made over the years.  And the cute little bags aren't half bad either!

Our team of two is growing.  And I don't just mean the belly bump!  Then, there were two.. and then two more joined (me included!)  And then even more players were added to the mix!  And that's where it's all started to get really exciting..

Here's to the new year and all of it's exciting new-ness!  We hope you're enjoying your "new" year so far, and that 2017 holds all that is wonderful and happy for you and yours!

Stay tuned for our next blog where we get to meet a new face - it's a gorgeous one, of course!  She's a model, a business woman..  someone who is doing something pretty cool in the fashion world, coming at it from a pretty smart and exciting platform.  She's a transplant living in the fashion capital of the world..  Like I said, stay tuned!

2017 is here, and it's going to be awesome!
